The many voices of Richard Nixon

Updated: Aug 10, 2024

Aw, Would You Look At The Time focuses on media portrayals of the 37th President.

It's finally here. I've been working on this Nixon-themed episode on and off for the past year. There are so many movies and TV shows that feature a fictional portrayal of Richard Nixon, so I thought it would be fun to go through all of them.

In this podcast episode, Allegra and I will take you through a few of those portrayals, until I ultimately wander off on my own to complete the project.

Part of the episode focuses on the off-broadway play from last year, Trial on the Potomac: The Impeachment of Richard Nixon starring legendary impressionist Rich Little. It's a wild ride of a show if you don't know what to expect. I'll leave it there. Luckily, I was able to chat with Mr. Little for this podcast, which you will hear.

I also wanted to talk with someone who had a more scholarly background in Nixon history, so Chapman University's Professor of History Luke Nichter was kind enough to take some time to talk with me. Prof. Nichter also runs nixontapes.org, which has the most complete digitized Nixon tape collection available to the public at this time, and has authored several books focused on the Watergate era.

There is a lot to know about the Watergate scandal. I tried not to go too deep into it, as it's a complicated topic and hard to cover in it's entirety. I tried my best to make this easy to listen to without going too into the weeds. I hope you enjoy!
